Dan’s Queenstown Adventure - Part 2

"After becoming acquainted with the Queenstown nightlife I decided the best cure for a hard night out was to get some fresh air – it was time for a jet boat ride! The Jet Boat Ride - Queenstown not only makes for a good hang over remedy but also combines both a joy ride including spins and sharp turns with a picturesque scenic trip on the Kawarau River set with spectacular views of the Remarkables.

The drivers not only push the boat to the limits but their knowledge of the area is impressive to say the least and it’s a good fun way to learn and see more of Queenstown. Anyway I think a better way to really show you what this one was all about is with a little clip – see below

You may notice it looks a little shallow (I certainly did) – well this boat can operate in water as shallow as 10cm! I would recommend this one to all and my only advice would be to rug up nice and warm as it is very chilly in winter even on a fine day – they do provide you with some trendy gears though if you are unprepared as I was (see below) – yes that is a poncho J :-) "

Eddie reviews the new Lamborghini LP640 & LP560-4

Don't ask us how we do it, but we sent Eddie along to review the latest Lamborghini's at their resent media launch...little did we know that he would wriggle his way into the drivers seat...

"Well I have to admit just to have the opportunity to attend such an exclusive and exciting launch was enough of a buzz, but to be thrown the keys to two of the worlds most respected Supercars was on a whole new level...

I'm sure if you're a car enthusiast you'll be reading professional reviews and comparisons in the car mags over the coming weeks, but here you'll get the Joe Bloggs run down courtesy of FreemanX which is better IMO ;-)

Firstly one of the most amazing aspects to this experience was Lamborghini's very own test driver David Amarosi who flew all the way from Italy to demonstrate these amazing cars, you can view the video of my hot lap with him below...

***the video is rated MA, there is an F-bomb dropped at 1.22 into the video (in case you want to skip it :-) ***

The Lamborghini Gallardo 560-4 is a precision weapon.

Lamborghini has found new ground with the 560-4, the first thing that comes to mind when I recollect my drive was the assault on the sensors delivered courteousy of the new e-gear transmission in corsa (track) mode. You literally feel like a bullet in a gun as it's cocked and fired, you hear the click and then bang you're gone. They are so fast and each change snaps you forward as the newly upgraded V10 with 560bhp fires you forward to even higher levels of ridiculous speed.

The new Gallardo now hits 100km/hr in 3.7 seconds and goes on to reach 335km/hr, yet despite these impressive specs the 560-4 is surprising easy to drive when utilising the electronic aides whose refinement can largely be attributed to the successful Audi ownership since 1997. Having said that, don't feel for a minute the need to think of this car as any less Italian, it's very much Lamborghini all the way, it's simply more precise and very different to the Lamborghini's of yester-year.

The 560-4 could be user friendly enough to drive daily if you can afford a $475,000 run-about, yet has the ability to now strip away the electronic aides and you are left with only the pure fire power of the 5.2ltr V10, then it's just you and the track.

An unbelievable car with power, precision and drivability.

The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 is an absolute monster.

Lamborghini has always been held in a different esteem to other supercars, there is a degree of inherent fear that niggles away at you when those lucky enough to drive them turn the key to fire them up. The LP640 makes no apologies for maintaining that fear factor something which goes hand in hand with the ultimate supercar experience.

The power is hard to explain but I will try my best as an enthusiastic layman. The car is low and wide and runs on 335 rear tyres with 285's on the front, yet get too excited coming out of a corner and think you'll put you foot anywhere near the floor and the 640 ponies roaring behind you will tear those 335's of the tarmac like they were the 165's on your Uncles starlet. The LP640 is very much the raging bull, it's a loaded gun and you need to respect it, be careful where you point it.

In a straight line the power is endless, your organs are compressed against the back of the sport seats and it never lets up until you go hard onto the carbon ceramic breaks only to feel yourself destined to beat the car to the corner if not restrained by the seatbelt. The breaks are unreal and will only set you back a mere $35,000 as an option :-)

Overall whilst initially very intimidating, once you settle into the saddle and provided you never lose the respect, this car let's loose a flood of emotional trails, it's exciting, it's extreme, it's ridiculously powerful, it's pure Lamborghini.

Great to catch up with Aaron Slight who many of us know as the Superbike sensation and also a very respected Touring car racing driver. He was also quick to praise of the LP640 power curve.

Fantastic Day."

Dan’s Queenstown Adventure - Part 1

We sent Dan to get the low down on just what Queenstown really has to offer, turns out it just might be all it's cracked up to be...

"It was my first day in Queenstown – my first hour to be precise when I rushed to catch a bus to the famous Kawarau Bridge, the home of the world’s first commercial bungy. Having done a bungy jump before and simply ‘fallen off’ and not actually jumping I approached this one with a sense of determination – really I was after redemption and was looking to put the ‘jump’ back into ‘bungy jump'.

As you can see from the photos, I am satisfied with the outcome and I think I restored a bit of pride, I'd give myself a 7/10 for distance and a 8/10 for style and execution (but that’s just me). I'd recommend the Bungy Jump - Kawarau Bridge, Queenstown to anyone in a heartbeat, the staff are great and some how make leaping off a bridge attached only to some cord a justifiable thing. It really does have a feel for being the home of the bungy jump; the venue has old memorabilia and even a theatre which has a documentary about the history of bungy jumping which only adds to the experience.

After the jump it was back to the hotel to finally unpack…but there was many more adventures to come…stay tuned for more…."

Nice one Dan, if you'd like to have a taste of what Queenstown can dish out you can book by clicking Bungy Jump - Kawarau Bridge, Queenstown.

We send Linda to fly a Black Hawk helicopter, Ok fly in a Black Hawk but still very cool...

" When you saw these three black hawks coming in to land on corporate hill at Eastern Creek Raceway it was really quite spectacular, they really are the jet fighter of helicopters. The video below shows them as they came over us for the first time...

Once we were strapped in it was pretty scary as you are facing straight out the door, and YES the doors are open!

We Left Eastern creek and headed for the city, the pic below shows the other two hawks as we all lifted off.

The views were simply amazing, the fact that you were looking straight out of an open door on a black hawk just charged the adrenalin into the breath taking views.

It also added another dimension to the flight with having another two black hawks flying in formation with us...an amazing sight, no doubt.

Once we hit the city there was a sense of privilege as it was obvious that very few people could say that they had looked down on some of the most prominent and world renowned landmarks hovering at 1,500ft in a black hawk!

We continued out to Manly and back over Bondi Beach which was quite spectacular as the pilot made some wide sweeping bank turns giving us a view second to none.

On the return journey we all thought that the trip had been as good as you could hope for but just when we thought it was over the three hawks rapidly split up and we went into some reasonably intense what you might call mild aerobatic maneuvers, there were some definite G-forces at play, the helicopter would bank so far in the turn that you were literaly at a 90 degree angle, somehow I managed to get this photo while we were at full bank, as you can see we were looking directly at the ground and literally hanging from our harnesses, unreal! So that's my review hope it paints the picture."

We would love to offer you the exact same experience however this was a one off made possible by the great team of military professionals that fly and crew these unbelievable machines as well as the facilitators of our world famous V8 drive Days...which you can view at the below links
